CETT Barcelona School of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy
That massive glass building stretching across 30,000 square meters houses something incredible - students from 53 different countries learning to cook, manage hotels, and welcome tourists! CETT was born right here on Avinguda de Can Marcet in 1969 when Gaspar Espuña had a wild idea to create Spain's first serious tourism school. Inside those modern walls, kids your age are already running their own restaurant, learning to be sommeliers in special wine-tasting rooms, and practicing in demonstration kitchens that look like something from a cooking show. The coolest part? They built their own 4-star hotel right on campus called Alimara, so students can practice being hotel managers with real guests! This place literally invented how to teach tourism in Barcelona - making it the first university chair for tourism in the entire city. As you walk past, imagine 550 international students inside right now, probably making amazing dishes from their home countries and learning how to make travelers feel welcome everywhere!
Did You Know?
- CETT Barcelona was founded in 1969 as one of the first specialized centers for tourism and hospitality education in Spain, and by 1980, it was already pioneering vocational training with its TEAT course (Technician of Tourist Companies and Activities), setting a national benchmark for professional education in the sector.
- The school is not just a campus but a living laboratory: it operates its own hotel (Hotel Alimara), two restaurants, a travel agency, and service companies, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in real-world hospitality and tourism environments—a unique feature among European hospitality schools.
- In 2008, CETT-UB created the first university-tourist business forum in Barcelona, the CETT-UB Council of Businesses, chaired by the rector of the University of Barcelona, bridging academia and industry in unprecedented ways and reinforcing the school’s role as a cultural and professional hub in the city.
