Sabadell Art Museum
The year is 1812, and workers are laying the very first stones of what will become a textile magnate's mansion right here on Carrer del Doctor Puig! This gorgeous building took SEVEN whole years to complete - that's longer than you've been in school! Pere Turull i Sallent, the textile king who built this place, was so rich he helped start his own bank. Now look at those elegant windows and classic stonework... inside, his old dining rooms and bedrooms have been transformed into galleries bursting with colorful Catalan paintings from the 1800s and 1900s. Can you imagine fancy dinner parties where art deals were made between courses?
Did You Know?
- The Sabadell Art Museum is housed in the historic 19th-century factory home of industrialist Antoni Casanovas, built in 1859, blending industrial heritage with artistic curation and offering visitors a unique glimpse into both the city’s industrial past and its cultural evolution.
- While the museum is best known for its modern and contemporary art, it also reflects Sabadell’s broader social and economic transformations, with exhibitions like 'Gris Plom' that critically explore how local artists—such as Alfons Borrell, Francesc Abad, and Fina Miralles—responded to the city’s industrial identity and the cultural awakening of the 1960s, a period marked by experimental art, street painting, and amateur cinema.
- The museum actively engages families and children with hands-on workshops and guided tours where young visitors can make prehistoric pigments, craft tools, role-play as ancient Laietani people or even bandits, turning a visit into an immersive, educational adventure that brings local history and art to life.
